Meesha on Heartbreak, Healing, and Her Bold New Era

Meesha doesn’t walk into a room—she arrives in style. Draped in a black velvet jacket and her signature blue scarf, and radiating a quiet confidence that suggests she’s seen some things and turned them into art, the 27-year-old alt-pop enchantress is here to talk about Dancing with Ghosts, her latest single and music video that’s already racked up many thousands of views within days of release. And true to its name, it’s a song soaked in memory, heartbreak, and an unexpected kind of liberation.
“It’s not really a sad song,” Meesha says, settling into a couch in her LA studio apartment, sun filtering through etched-glass windows behind her. “It’s reflective. It’s me looking at my past relationships—the ones that burned bright and died fast—and instead of mourning them, I’m dancing with them. Literally. That’s the concept.”
The song, a hypnotic blend of groovy percussion, dreamy synths, acoustic guitar, and Meesha’s signature smoky vocals, tells the story of whirlwind love affairs with young men who she describes as “brilliantly reckless and emotionally unavailable.” The chorus—“Now I go dancing with ghosts / Falling in love, I believed / Dancing with ghosts / Holding onto nothing but dreams”—captures the essence of learning hard truths through heartbreak.
“They weren’t villains,” she clarifies. “I think that’s important to say. These were passionate, chaotic moments in my life that felt like fire. And fire doesn’t last. But you remember how it warmed you—and how it burned.”
The Video: The Haunted Recurring Dream
The music video, directed by up-and-coming videographer Iris Langley, is a dark and mystical fever dream. Meesha dances in a crumbling castle, her partner an apparition—appearing as a flickering projection, ghostly and unreachable.
“I wanted it to feel intimate and eerie, but also powerful,” Meesha says. “Like I was reclaiming the narrative. Yes, these men left. Yes, it hurt. But I’m still here and I’m OK. I’m not just surviving—I’m dancing.”
The recurring dream concept adds another layer. “For a lot of us, the ghosting thing just keeps happening. The recurring dream and me asleep in the bed surrounded by phones sums it all up for me. We sometimes just keep trying harder and we go further to find that one that sticks it out through the good times and the bad.”
A Turning Point
Dancing with Ghosts marks a new chapter in Meesha’s evolving sound. Known for her dreamy debut EP Velvet Static, she’s long toyed with themes of nostalgia and longing. But this track feels sharper, more grounded—and a bit more serious.
“I’ve always romanticized things. I still do,” she admits with a laugh. “But I also wanted to show girls out there that they are not alone. It’s not glorifying the men in question. I’m not writing to reach out to those old ghosts. I’m writing for those who’ve gone through their own line of ghosts.”
And with this latest release, it’s clear that Meesha is no longer chasing shadows. She’s learned to walk in them without any fear.
